Digital printing on polyester fabric
In ZJMEIXIN printing service, in addition to providing digital printing on cotton fabrics, we also do high-quality digital printing on polyester fabrics by dye-sublimation process.
Dye sublimation printing is the magical process where the vibrant, fully photographic quality print disappears from the printed paper and permanently dyes the polyester fabric we want to print on.
While digital polyester printing via dye sublimation may seem like some sort of strange magic to the uninitiated, it's actually science at work—it's the same process used to make dry ice and freeze-dry instant coffee.
The sublimation process transforms a solid into a gas without passing through the liquid phase by applying heat and pressure.
For printing, we use it to dye polyester fabrics by printing a special support paper (called sublimation paper) with dye particles in a water-based solution, then heat pressing this paper onto the polyester fabric.
The dye molecules become a (non-toxic) gas and then combine with the polymer molecules present in the polyester fabric, thus transferring the digital print into the fibers of the fabric exactly as it is on paper.
Although we refer to sublimation printing as transfer printing, it is not actually transfer printing because we do not apply a transfer, but instead dye the image permanently into the fibers of the polyester fabric (rather than onto it).
When it comes to digitally printing polyester fabrics, one of the main advantages of this printing process, in addition to being permanent and totally quick to clean, is the hand or feel of the fabric.
There is absolutely no difference in hand (how the fabric feels) between printed and non-printed areas of the fabric. This is just one of the reasons that make the dye sublimation printing process such a great digital fabric printing process.
